DIY solutions to unclog your sink

August 30, 2019

Bathroom or kitchen sink clogged again? Tired of the constant water build up each time you turn your tap on? Never fear, here are our favourite do-it-yourself solutions to unclogging your sink!

–    Boiling water

Put the kettle on and, once it’s boiled, add salt and tip the mixture down the sink. Repeat a few times and see if this makes all the difference!

–    Vinegar and baking soda

Make a mixture with equal parts white vinegar and baking soda and direct down the kitchen and bathroom drains. This effective method often breaks down any buildup in the drain, unclogging it in the process.

–    Plunger time

If the above two methods don’t prove successful, try using the trusty plunger. This can be used on all sized sinks; however, be sure to block the second sink if you are trying to plunge a double sink. Remember, with plunging, the secret is to create a tight seal of suction around the plunge head before beginning, so fill with enough water to cover the head of the plunger.

–    Plumber’s snake or coat hanger

Both can be handy tools to put down a drain to successfully unclog it. Remember, if you are using a coat hanger, straighten it first – and only use it for shallow blockages (as it won’t travel as far down the drain as a plumber’s snake will).

If you have tried all these DIY solutions and none seem to work – give your local plumber a call. Brian and his expert team of plumbers have been servicing the NSW Central Coast for more than three decades, so give them a call on 0410 206 134 to sort your blocked sinks out for good, today.
